Let’s set aside party-political differences! Let’s come together! Let’s Fix Politics!
STOP THE PARTY WHIP & BLOCK VOTE! Our Councillors, MPs and in Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland our MSP/MS/MLAs should be free to exercise their judgement to investigate issues and to cast a free vote on behalf of their constituents as per their conscience. Their voting record should rest on their shoulders. We no longer want our elected representatives to take instructions on how they should vote from their party or from the majority of the Councillors in their party. If the party whip and block voting continue, we will consider voting for our local PEOPLE PARTY in the May 2026 Scottish Parliament elections, the May 2027 Scottish Local Council elections, the 2029 General Election and intervening Local and By-elections.
We the undersigned, are constituents of yours. We are serving notice on you our MP, MSP or Councillor in a face-to-face meeting demanding that you oppose the party whip and agree to exercise a free vote. We believe this will allow you to use your intellect, judgment and conscience when you vote on our behalf.
We understand that abiding by our demand means that you agree to take the risk of being suspended by your party, potentially destroying your career.
Our signatures are part of a nationwide campaign to STOP THE PARTY WHIP (PeopleParties.org) which will help constituents in all 650 Westminster constituencies serve notice on all 650 MPs in face-to-face meetings.
We need as many MPs as possible to come forward and agree to our demand that way it will be harder for the top-down autocratic parties to suspend them.
If you fail to abide by our demand, we will consider voting for EDINBURGH & EAST LOTHIAN PEOPLE at the next election as direct democracy is enshrined within their constitution. This means that their elected representatives must vote as per instructed by the members of the party on a vote-by-vote basis.
THE PARTY WHIP IS THE SINGLE LINCHPIN FLAW IN OUR SYSTEM OF POLITICS
When our elected representatives are told by their party that they will be told how to vote, that demotes them to the status of a lacky. As a lacky it is not a criticism but just human nature that would also apply to you or me. As a lacky it is just normal for one to disengage one’s intellect from questioning what one is doing because what difference can one make? None!
IS THIS WHAT WE WANT FROM OUR LAWMAKERS FOR THEM TO DISENGAGE THEIR INTELLECT WHEN AMENDING & VOTING ON LEGISLATION WHICH AFFECTS US?
